French
artist Pierre Bittar, world renowned for his Impressionistic
oil paintings, was born only eight years after the death of
Claude Monet, the father of Impressionism.
Bittar began
drawing at a very early age and completed his first oil painting
at the age of ten when his parents gave him his first set
of oil paints. His great passion to learn more about the Impressionistic
style continued to grow as he reached his teens. The young
Pierre Bittar began spending his free time at museums, studying
for hours at a time the works of the master Impressionists,
trying to discover this mysterious art which moved him so
much. His main objective became his quest to one day become
an artist of Impressionism...like the masters he emulated
and admired so much.
Pierre
Bittar's dream was to be put aside until 1979. Sadly, when
the artist was only nineteen years of age, his father passed
away. Assuming his responsibility, Bittar accepted a position
as a computer and sales instructor, with NCR, Inc., in Zurich,
Switzerland. This full time occupation kept him busy, however
he began to fill all his weekends and leisure time with painting
excursions. He then enrolled in the Art Academie and finished
in only three years' time...winning the Academie's first prize.
Bittar's effort
did not go unnoticed. In 1963, he had his first one man show
in Lausanne, Switzerland. He continued to collect honors and
awards in France, when he returned with his company to Paris
in 1965 to direct NCR's French Education Center.

Pierre
Bittar retired from his management position at NCR in 1980,
leaving a secure position after working with the company for
24 years. It was time to realize his dream of becoming a dedicated,
full-time painter. Since that time he has never looked back
and has travelled and painted throughout France, the United
States, England, Italy and the Caribbean Islands, always relying
on the Impressionists' way of painting, "en plein air".
A book of his life and work was published in 1986, titled
simply, Pierre Bittar. It is in limited edition, reserved
for his collectors around the world.
| Many
articles have been written in various publications about
Bittar's life and work. The following article was published
by an art magazine in Paris during one of his one-man
shows:

|
The
life of Pierre Bittar is based on a conscious choice
of freedom. He lives in accord with his beliefs and
feelings, in harmony with his personal taste. He decided
to live as an artist, refusing both servitude and surrender.
This highly sensitive artist, passionately attached
to animate and inanimate life, is devoted to the expression
of the eternal poetry of nature. He transposes in a
simple, sober manner the infinite faces of nature, guided
by a fine sense of observation, whose expression is
not marred by sentimentality nor deformed by exaggeration.
A Pierre Bittar painting is a door opening into marvels
of nature. It is a stroll down a garden path in dappled
light, plunging into the rich green extravagance of
foliage. It is the whisper of the wind in the trees,
the soft murmur of snow falling. Bittar's shows compose
an enchanting invitation to contemplate Heaven and earth,
trees and seasons. This intensely poetic content is
sustained by a perfect technical mastery, a highly developed
sense of proportions and graphic finesse.
Neither
purist or surrealist, the artistic temperment of Pierre
Bittar is proudly indifferent to changing fashion and
independent of schools and tendencies. Installing his
easel solidly in the heart of his subject, he sketches,
establishes the values and the scope of his painting,
which is executed with a delicate power that inspires
us to share his emotions. Remarkable for his mastery
of color and distinguished by this combination of vigor
and sensitivity, Bittar is thoroughly devoted to his
art; painting according to his feelings and a personal
sense of truth, he expresses his love for the beautiful,
inspired by a depth of accumulated perceptions and emotional
experience. Gifted with technical skill brought to a
maturity and inspired by a sensitivity that has not
been dulled by formal instruction. Pierre Bittar invites
us to travel with him across time and space towards
his marvelous inner world, bearing a message of love
and beauty.
Can
we doubt that this expression of faith lifts Pierre
Bittar up to the ranks of authentic poets and communicates
the vitality of his convictions?"
